Background of the Study

Effective revenue collection is essential for the financial sustainability of local governments. In Katsina LGA, efficient revenue management practices, facilitated by sound governmental accounting, are vital for the successful implementation of development programs. Governmental accounting practices enable the tracking, recording, and reporting of revenue inflows, ensuring that funds are appropriately collected and utilized. This study aims to explore the role of governmental accounting in enhancing revenue collection in Katsina LGA, focusing on identifying gaps and proposing improvements.

Statement of the Problem

Revenue collection in Katsina LGA has faced challenges, including low revenue generation, inefficiency, and lack of transparency in the financial processes. The absence of robust accounting practices has led to underreported revenues and mismanagement of funds, which negatively affects the local government’s ability to deliver public services. This study will explore how governmental accounting practices can be improved to boost revenue collection and ensure the proper management of these funds.

Aim and Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the role of governmental accounting in enhancing revenue collection in Katsina LGA.

3. To propose strategies for improving governmental accounting practices to increase revenue collection.

Research Questions

1. How do governmental accounting practices affect revenue collection in Katsina LGA?

2. What challenges hinder efficient revenue collection in Katsina LGA?

3. How can governmental accounting practices be improved to enhance revenue collection in Katsina LGA?

Research Hypotheses

1. H₀: Governmental accounting practices do not significantly affect revenue collection in Katsina LGA.

2. H₀: Challenges in revenue collection in Katsina LGA are not significantly related to governmental accounting practices.

3. H₀: Improvements in governmental accounting practices do not significantly enhance revenue collection in Katsina LGA.

Significance of the Study

This study will provide valuable insights into the role of governmental accounting in improving revenue collection practices in Katsina LGA. By identifying key challenges and proposing practical solutions, the research will help local authorities increase their financial sustainability, enabling them to fund critical public services and infrastructure projects.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

The study will focus on governmental accounting practices related to revenue collection in Katsina LGA. Limitations include potential access issues with financial records and possible reluctance from local government officials to disclose sensitive information related to revenue management.
